Positives: Very nice painting as a gift. Fun and cute for people who love Totoro. The painting set comes with a rolled up canvas, a smaller reference picture, mini paint pots with number and brushes. All you need is a glass of water for the brushes. The template image of Totoro and friends is gorgeous. The painting canvas itself comes in outlines of the scene with numbers in the center. You just match the number on the section on canvas to the paint pot number.
Negatives: The picture that is posted on Amazon is a little misleading because it looks 3D but it is just image on flat convas that is shipped rolled up. You have to buy the frame. The written description is accurate though. Secondly, while painting the picture, the number on the canvas that correlates with the gray part of Totoro’s body matched up to a green color in the paint pots sent. There was no grey color in the paint kit. So, Totoro’s grey body ( that is seen in the reference picture provided in the kit) ends up being green?? Luckily, using the paint colors that were given, an appropriate shade of grey was mixed by using different colors. Hence the 4 stars. How can a Totoro painting have a green Totoro?
Bottom line: Hours of fun for anyone. Gorgeous painting. Worth the price. Does take a while to ship- be patient (the shipment arrived ahead of the shipping deadline). Also be prepared to not be able to track your shipment. You just know that your order is shipped and then when your order arrives at your doorstep. Finally be wary of mismatched colors.

I changed the vase color because I thought it was too much yellow. I thought you should upgrade to canvas being already stretched on a frame. You should rate the degree of difficulty, this was a first attempt and it was overwhelming with all the numbers.

I am only about 1/4 of the way through painting the Giraffe, but already I am in love. We bought this one along with the Lion and Elephant, all frameless, to go in our sons room. I am so excited to see how they look on the wall!
TIP: The canvas comes folded and in a package with the paints and brushes. As soon as ours came in the mail, we took the canvases’ out of the packages, unfolded them, smoothed them flat slightly by hand, then rolled them together into a tube, and finally secured the tube with a rubber band. When we were finally at a place where we could start on them, just being in the tube together for a couple of weeks helped get most of the creases out immensely. For good measure though, we ironed them. We put the canvases pattern side down between two towels, sprayed the back of the canvas lightly with water, and started on the lowest setting on our iron. We ended up having to turn it up to around medium heat to see any real change, but that was enough to flatten out the canvases nicely. Then, we bought some 20×20 squares of cheap (like $2 ea.) non-wood type wood boards (the same stuff as clipboards kind of) at Lowes, and that’s what we use to paint on. We just use binder clips to hold it in place. It works beautifully!

This was my first Paint By Numbers, and I was a bit nervous because some of the reviews online, on the various paintings were a mix of good and bad comments. So I was nervous about what would arrive in the mail. It came very nicely packaged… with paint, 3 brushes, a colored picture of what the finished product will look like, and then a large picture of basically a copy of the canvas numbers (this is really helpful if you want to go back and do a second coat on a section but cannot remember what number/ paint color that was). I am satisfied with my purchase. And just ordered another painting from the same seller. I am almost done with my painting. I love it! The numbers are easy to read… the brushes it comes with are perfect for all the various sizes of sections that need to be covered in paint. I must say working on this is very relaxing, and that is what I was hoping for when I bought it.

I ordered three of these, and absolutely love every single one of them. The company was great and responsive, gave me a preview before sending them, and even helped resolve a shipping issue. The actual paintings were not the easiest to do, hence all the detail on them. I took my time and they turned out exactly like the photo I sent and the preview they gave me. The colors were perfect, and there was more than enough paint (I had doubts about this but I had plenty leftover). I will absolutely buy more of these on the future and cannot wait to be able to do more. Fyi I coated one of the paintings with resin so it is much more shiny than the others.

This Paint By Number was super fun and satisfying. I love that the canvas is on a frame with the hook available so your picture is ready to hang. I had plenty of clearly labeled paint, the two different size paint brushes were just right, and the included “map” with all the numbers and an included picture of my end result made it easy to problem solve. I felt like a real artist when I stood back and examined my work. I do love my dogs and the finished painting makes me absolutely giddy with happiness. The seller is very responsive to any questions or concerns. The response time was less than a day. The attached pictures are of the original photo, and the finished 16 x 20 painting. I’ve never done this before and I was not rushing. It took me 20-30 hours to complete. I did purchase an inexpensive art easel to make the painting process easier.

Do not purchase these canvases on “paint by number “ or †epacific mallâ€. Idid and it has been six weeks plus without even a shipping notice. I ordered on Amazon and twice I received the canvas in two days. You guessed it, the other order is shipped from China so I doubt I will ever see them. Although I have not painted the canvases I found the canvas to be very good quality, sturdy and well stamped with the paint pattern. These are not your growing up paint by number kits. They are for adults, complex and intricate. The paints are well sealed, there is no excess , but I expect there is adequate paint. The brushes are packaged well and protected. It will take committment and time to complete but I expect it to be worth it and a great production.

A 7 year old painted the Monkey and a 9 year old painted the Tiger. The Tiger was definitely harder and required more patience. We almost ran out of green paint for the monkey but we did make it. There was plenty of paint for all the other colors. There was no paint mixing needed. Each painting came with 2 paintbrushes, both with relatively small tips. We ended up using our own paintbrushes. The directions were in awkward English, as others have mentioned, but this type of painting project doesn’t require much in the way of directions. The paintings each came with 2 hangers and screws. The hanging hardware for the Tiger painting was bigger than the hardware for the monkey. Both kids really enjoyed the painting and want to do more at some point
